Chiropractic philosophy states that every human being has the innate ability to self regulate and heal without invasive therapies such as drugs and  surgery.  This ability for self-healing is all about communication within our body's nervous system.

Your brain is connected to every cell in your body.  Whether it be muscle, organ, gland, or blood vessel, the nervous system coordinates communication between the brain and every cell in the body.  When the nervous system is working properly, a very sensitive feedback loop is in place between the body and the brain, allowing the correct regulation of our bodily functions as well as facilitating the healing process.  A closed safety pin is a simple analogy of an un-interupted feedback loop.

Every joint in your body contributes major amounts of information into this feedback loop, especially the joints of the spine.  When a joint is injured or not working properly, a breakdown in the feedback loop occurs.

This results in an inability to heal and self regulate by your body.

Chiropractors evaluate the joints of the body, paying special attention to the spinal joints.  When a malfunctioning joint is located, the chiropractor will apply a specific force or adjustment into that joint to restore normal motion.  This adjustment removes the interference in the nervous system and restores the necessary feedback loop, thus allowing the body to take over and begin the healing process.
